Breaking News: Prof. Fletcher discusses drought impacts on water affordability on KTVU Fox 2

Despite many regions of California recently experiencing historic rainfall events and flooding, the state still continues to face enduring drought conditions. In a recently televised interview on KTVU Fox 2, a local San Francisco Bay Area news outlet, Prof. Sarah Fletcher discussed the findings of a recent research study conducted in the Fletcher Lab at Stanford University (Rachunok and Fletcher, 2023). The recently published study, conducted by Dr. Sarah Fletcher and Dr. Benjamin Rachunok, suggests that droughts can disproportionately challenge urban water affordability and security for low-income households. While low-income households can face water bill increases up to $70 per month during droughts, high-income households can experience water bill reductions up to $40 per month depending on the drought mitigation efforts pursued by urban water suppliers and utilities.
